Kylemore Park Residents were asked to leave their homes in Kylemore Park as the suspect device was examined
The dissident republican Real IRA have admitted three overnight attacks in Derry.
The relatives of a serving police officer were the target of two suspected bombs.
The first device exploded outside his parents' home in Shantallow, while a second device is being examined outside his sister's home in Kylemore Park.
In the statement the group also claimed responsibility for shooting a man in his legs and hand at about 0130 BST.
A number of masked men forced their way into the house at Drumard Park in Ballymagroarty.
The man was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
There have been six paramilitary-style shootings in Derry in the past four weeks.
In the Kylemore Park incident several people were asked to leave their homes when a device was spotted at about 0730 BST.
In the Shantallow explosion a car was damaged but no one was injured.
Inspector Jon Burrows said the groups carrying out these attacks were distracting police from doing their job.
Sinn Fein Assembly member Raymond McCartney condemned the attacks.
"This family is a part of our community and I would call on the community to show solidarity with them at this time," he said.
"While most people are working to build a peaceful future it would seem that a minuscule and unrepresentative group think that by carrying out cowardly actions based on spurious excuses, they will frustrate continued progress.
"They will not succeed and should stop their activity before it leads to the killing of more innocent people."
These attacks were a direct response to an incident which happened last week. A female member of a Republican family was knelled on the ground in the mud and a Machine gun was place to her head by the RUC/PSNI. Her partner was beaten in front of her by members of the TSG bully squads.
The car bomb was a direct response to this incident. The RIRA has sent a clear and decisive message to British Police officers who target republican families.

As a Scotsman with firm Republican & Socialist beliefs, I just wonder why there is a "campaign" being carried out against innocent families of PSNI staff???
If any volunteers of the RIRA have a family member(s) who are involved in Drugs, Paedophilia, Extortion etc - would they then wake up to explosives in their gardens? I would like to think not!
As a PR exercise, such reports are nothing short of damaging to the cause of Republicanism - get a grip guys!

Sean McMenamin ,As an Irish republican who has lived all his life in the occupied 6 counties and has suffered imprisonment,,been exiled and had an attempt on my life by the UDA and RUC , I think I can speak on this issue with some authority .
What is happening at the present time is history repeating itself ,with Ulsterisation and normalisation.
60% of the PSNI were members of the RUC and they were a murderous gang so how do you expect them to change .
The PSNI/RUC are a British police force enforcing British rule and as such they may be seen as some rpublicans as legitimate targets and if the PSNI target our families surly we have the right to do likewise .
so thanks for your continued interest and support and please open your mind to what we are reporting ,maybe we havent got the massive propaganda machine that Sinn Fein/British government have but we do have the truth on our side.

Seany1 - I do not disagree with you entirely & for what it is worth, the Sinn Fein strategy is one which I believe most Republicans can only view as being a complete sell out of the Republican cause - particularly given the "old-school" long term stances of Mssrs McGuinness, Adams, Kelly, Doherty etc.
That said however, I still do not agree with the targetting of these innocent civillians. As a Republican myself with presently involved friends in Derry & Armagh I am automatically GUILTY by association, my retort to this is that it is unfair, inexcusable amongst a number of other thoughts & feelings of hatred - by adopting a similar strategy yourselves - it can only be harmful to the long term cause & the PR bandwagon. Can anyone else see this or is it simply myself?
On another note - tell Gerry O'H I pass my regards.

The Shame Fein Sonnet
For what was the death of our volunteers
Is Ireland a land united and free
Did England withdraw the British Army
Does an Irish Tricolour fly freely
In whose hands is the wealth of this country
Do we all look upon land that we own
Do we live in peace and tranquility
On the returned land that we can call home
Is the world at the feet of our children
Have they all equal opportunity
Are they safe from our enemy selling
Drugs and addiction in our community
Do those who fought now devalue their deeds
That were good enough once as they are now
And add insult to injury claiming
To be the only ones who have the right
Do the fearless few still draw freedoms breath
Are they kindling it’s fire in the night
Do they honour the name of dead comrades
By never abandoning the good fight
To rid the North of Ireland of tyrants
Aproned murderers for red white and blue
Sitting with ageing collaborators
Who sold ideals they could not see through
To our shame McGuinness and Adams dealt
Partition and their lot came very cheaply
Dealers will never deliver our fighters
The paid betrayal is ingrained deeply
They now sport suits and articulation
Bleached teeth, whites smiles and image consultants
Houses, pubs, clubs,wealthy businesses and
Uphold British law and regulation
In Ireland.

Sean , I do understand where you are comming from but in every war there is a murky side and even those who start with the very best intentions are drawn into it.
When our prisoners were being abused by screws we had to attack their homes to put forcefuly the point that this was not acceptable and when they refused to take this message they were executed,
one action being slightly more drastic than the other .
I agree that as far as pr goes this may not be the best form of action but when activists families are being targeted for intimidation and assault by the RUC and there is a virtual media blackout giving the RUC a free hand to do as they please what other form of action do we have at our disposal?
Seany1
good to see the republican gunmen in action again, dont leave it so long the next time lads!
