DPP Meeting Forced to be Abandoned

STATEMENT

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement today held a peaceful protest at a British DPP meeting in Derry City to highlight the ongoing harassment of young children by the RUC/PSNI. Over the past few months numerous children some as young as 11 months old have been stopped under the section 44 of the terrorism act and abused. The recent behaviour of the RUC/PSNI in Republican areas can be compared to that of the Gestapo. As a result of the protest the meeting was forced to be abandoned. These meeting are nothing but a vain attempt to normalise a British colonial Police Force and their actions. Our efforts to disrupt these meetings and other British operations in Ireland will continue for as long as British government and its apparatus remain in Ireland.

Dump sites to reopen

.

Derry City Council has reversed its controversial decision to close two recycling sites at the Brandywell and Eglinton.
The decision was taken at a specially convened meeting at the Guildhall on Tuesday.

The sites, which were closed in May as part of a drive to reduce council spending, will reopen in the autumn but with reduced hours.

The decision to close the sites sparked a wave of protests across the city.

Explaining the decision to reopen the sites, a Council spokesperson said: “Savings had been found through anticipated reductions in waste tonnage and waste treatment costs against projections for the financial period 2009/10.”

Child (5) 'wet herself' as British police searched dad

Published Date: 28 July 2009
A Derry mother has claimed her five-year-old daughter wet herself through fear as PSNI officers detained the child's father.

Catherine Rush claimed that police swooped on her ex-partner - a well known Derry republican - as he walked with his children in Derry City Centre.

She has accused the PSNI of "child abuse" and of breaching her children's human rights.

Paddy McDaid, who was recently accused of Real IRA membership in a case which collapsed at Dublin's Special Criminal Court, was taking Toni (5) and Oran (12) to McDonalds for lunch when the alleged incident took place near Derry Court House at around noon on Wednesday.

Ms Rush said: "An armed response unit, with police dressed in boiler suits and armed with tasers, handguns, sub machine guns and CS gas, confronted Paddy in front of the children. Paddy was holding hands with Toni and he was separated from her by policemen before being searched. Toni wet herself she was so terrified. The children had never experienced anything like that in their lives."

"Toni said to me afterwards: 'Mammy I thought they were going to shoot my daddy dead'. That broke my heart and made me very angry."
She added: "Children should not be terrorised for their parents' beliefs, my children should not be terrorised because their father is a republican. The police had no reason to stop and search Paddy when he had the children with him. Why could they not wait until the children were left home."

Solicitor Paddy McDermott said last night that a complaint would be made to the Police Ombudsman and the Children's Commissioner. He added: "On our client's instructions we would say this is an abuse of children's rights to have an existence free from fear."

A PSNI spokesperson said "anyone with a complaint to make regarding police actions should contact the Police Ombudsman."

Mr McDaid was released from custody after a case against him and three other Derry men charged with Real IRA membership collapsed after an eleven day trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin last December.

Fermanagh no-go area for British Police

The PSNI are refusing to comment on reports that Police personnel will only be allowed to go into certain areas of South Fermanagh by helicopter.

The Impartial Reporter understands that the Police decision was taken because of a high level of Republican threat,

Following alot of recent criticism PSNI Commander Michael Skuce appealed to Republicans to get of the communitys backs and let the Police do there job.

Last friday the Real IRA issued bomb warnings in Enniskillen. And on Saturday the Continuity IRA issued bomb warnings in Lisnaskea and Maguiresbridge.

It has also been reported that the 32 County Sovereignty Movement regarded to be linked to the Real IRA has embarked on a recruitment campaign by putting leaflets through letter boxes in the Newtownbutler area.

"On friday afternoon telephone warnings of devices in Enniskillen and other parts of Fermanagh were made.

"Police immediately alerted the buisinesses that had been identified and shop staff carried out searches. Nothing was found in any of the searches" a Police spokesman added.

When asked if it was a change of policy to ask shop staff to search for potential bombs, the spokesman replied:"Police have long developed relationships with traders in terms of what to look out for and what to do should the need arise.

"The traders know there premises and stock and how to assist Police in carrying out searches.

"There should not be a need for such searches by traders or Police and those that creare that need must bear any consequences" he added.

A caller warning of devices left by the Continuity IRA said it was the second warning.
Police say that other calls that bombs had been left in rural areas continue.

"A clear and present high level of threat to Police officers exists in Co Fermanagh and we bear that in mind in our operations," the PSNI spokesman added.

Police sourses have said they will not respond to incidents in certain areas around Newtownbutler by road, but only armed Police personnel will be sent in by air.

However, the Police spokesman said "Given the threat, it would not be appropriate to comment on the operational decisions we take in relation to the deployment of resourses.".

RUC/PSNI Threaten to “Taser” Pregnant Woman During Home Raid. RNU Statement

Statement from Martin Og Meehan, North Belfast Republican Network for Unity.

“This is day three in which the RUC/PSNI have held the community in Ardoyne under virtual siege. Prior to and following on from the civil disturbance due to the Orange order parade being forced through our community this paramilitary force have been stopping, harassing and abusing scores of residents in the streets under the all covering ‘Section 44 PTA’. The latest in this saga of repression has seen a series of house raids beginning early this morning.
Doors have been rammed in with children being awakened crying from their beds whilst these thugs wreck all in their paths as they overturn families furniture. In one incident a heavily pregnant woman blocked the way of a raiding party trying to force their way up stairs and into the family’s bedrooms. Telling them that she needed to get her children from their beds and dressed before taking them downstairs….she was told in no uncertain terms that she had better “Get the f**k out of our way before I Taser you”.

These searches have turned up nothing and are clearly meant to put the frighteners on to the people of Ardoyne for having the audacity to oppose the Orange march of hate. Whilst the RUC/PSNI will undoubtedly continue to behave in such a manner, encouraged by the silence of the elected representatives of the area - who care to look the other way and only see and say what their masters up in Stormont tell them to, they need to know that the people of Ardoyne have endured generations of state oppression, it did not break the will of the people to resist then….it will not do it now.
The Republican Network for Unity call upon the RUC/PSNI to withdraw from the Ardoyne area immediately.”

Statement ends.

32csm refute kelly's claims

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement absolutely refute Gerry Kelly’s assertions that members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, in concert with other republicans, were ‘sent’ into the Ardoyne area to create conflict and we challenge him to produce proof to support this outlandish claim. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement did have members, from Ardoyne, at the protest to observe the overreactions of the British police in Ireland. Kelly’s comments are deliberately phrased to mislead the wider community into believing that the show of resistance by the people of Ardoyne was cynically manipulated by people from outside the area and thus misrepresented the feelings of the people from Ardoyne. The 32CSM reject this and we fully commend the people of Ardoyne, and neighbouring nationalist areas in their efforts to repel the RUC/PSNI from imposing a sectarian hate march in an area where it is clearly not wanted. We do however agree with Minister Kelly on one point, it was people from outside the area who caused this situation, we do not imagine many of the Orangemen or RUC/PSNI personnel were from Ardoyne.

British Police 'using vunerable teen' : Told to 'keep eye on houses'

A young Derry man with learning difficulties has claimed the PSNI have been using him to monitor the homes of republicans for more than a year.
The man, who did not wish to be identified, said he has been in weekly contact with a PSNI officer who told him to "keep an eye" on a number of houses on the cityside. The 18 year-old told the 'Journal' he wants the contact to stop and is appealing for the police to leave him alone.

"It first happened about a year and a half ago after I was stopped by the police. I get phone calls on my mobile from a private number from a policeman. He told me to watch out for people and keep an eye on houses to see who is going in and out. He rings me and asks what is happening," he claimed.

The teenager also claimed to have met with the police officer on several occasions. The contacts came to light after the young man told a family friend what had been happening.

"I want it to stop. I'm afraid of what could happen to me. I don't want any hassle. I just want to be left alone and I don't want anything more to do with this," he said.

The teenager's family have lodged a complaint over the issue with the Police Ombudsman's office.

Eamonn McCann from the Socialist Environmental Alliance described it as a "deplorable case."

"Anyone put under this sort of pressure would be unsettled and anxious but when the person is as vulnerable as in this instance, the result could be disastrous. The harassment of this young man for information which he hasn't got should stop immediately," he said.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement also condemned the incident and appealed for anyone in a similar situation to come forward to the Republican Movement, the media, a solicitor, or "anyone they feel comfortable with."

A PSNI spokesperson said: "We do not comment on intelligence matters and no inference should be drawn from this. However, in line with all other police services across the UK the PSNI's policy in relation to the use of Covert Human Intelligence Sources is strictly governed by the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and is fully compliant with Human Rights legislation."

Shantallow youths attack British Police

On Monday the 6th of July the RUC/PSNI (British Police) raided homes in the Republican Shantallow area of Derry City. Around 70 youths offered fierce resistance to their presence in the area. A woman was treated for injuries caused by heavy handed members of TSG (Special Police) who forced their way into her home. The 32csm is aware that British Police told local people to ‘***k off’ and were called ‘fenian ******ds'.These images show that the PSNI is not welcome in the Shantallow area. No community workers or locals attempted to stop youths from resisting the PSNIs presence.

Evidence of Harassment by British Police

STATEMENT
DERRY 32CSM
2-JULY-2009

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement condemns the recent upsurge of harassment on the families of Republican activists. Children as young as two years of age have been left traumatised as a result of being stopped under Section 44 of the terrorism act by the PSNI (British Police) .

In the case of one Republican he and his two daughters have been stopped five times in the space of a fortnight. In one incident his seven year old daughter had to leave the scene in a taxi due to the aggressive and intimidating manner of the search. In another incident a member of the 32CSM was stopped pushed against the wall and searched whilst carrying his three year old child in his arms. Republicans have also been stopped collecting young children from school. In at least one of these incidents the family of the child concerned has contacted the children’s commission.

It is obvious that the PSNI is now operating a concerted campaign of intimidation aimed at the families of Republican activists. The 32CSM will be holding a protest at Free Derry Corner at 2pm on Saturday the 4th July to highlight the ongoing harassment of Republican activists and their families.

British Police harassing Republican's children

A Derry solicitor has hit out at the PSNI, claiming they are stopping and searching people based solely on their political views.
Paddy MacDermott made the comment after hardline republicans in Derry said they are getting stopped and searched by the police on “an hourly basis.”

Mr MacDermott, of MacDermott and McGurk solicitors, said a number of his clients had contacted him about being stopped under the Terrorism Act.

“We have numerous complaints from clients over the past number of weeks with regard to being stopped and searched by the PSNI.

“It would appear that this is part of a concerted campaign targeted at people for their political views,” he said.

Several members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32CSM) also contacted the ‘Journal’ to say that they had been stopped and searched under the Terrorism Act.

One member, Paddy McDaid, said he was searched by police officers while holding his three year-old child in his arms. Leading republican Gary Donnelly also said he and his 16 year-old daughter were searched while the teenager was pushing a child in a pram along the quay on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Donnelly claimed it was the latest in a series of incidents where children have been present while republicans have been searched. “As republicans we expect this type of hostility from the police but I think it is unacceptable that they are turning their attention towards children now. I have been stopped while with my children on several occasions in the last fortnight and my 16 year-old daughter has been stopped under the Terrorism Act also. This is a very scary experience for children,” he said.

Michael Gallagher of the 32 CSM, who said he has been stopped several times in recent days, said the incidents are part of a “renewed effort to harass republicans.”

“We have seen the real face of the RUC with the ongoing harassment of republicans and their families.

“Republicans are now being harassed on a daily, and indeed, an hourly basis,” he said.

Responding to the claims, a spokesperson for the PSNI said: “If anyone has genuine cause to complain about the actions of any police officer they can contact the office of the Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland.”
